What is it used for?
The AuthInfo/EPP code is used to:
- Authorize domain transfer requests
- Verify ownership of the domain
- Prevent unauthorized domain transfers
Who provides the code?
The code is issued by your current domain registrar (the company where the domain is currently registered). Depending on the provider, it may be obtained via:
- Customer support request
- Client panel form
- Direct download or display in the account dashboard (less common)
Code format
The AuthInfo code typically:
- Contains 8 to 32 characters
- May include letters, numbers, and special characters
- Is case-sensitive
Important distinction
It is important not to confuse domain transfer with domain delegation:
- Domain transfer: moves the domain to a new registrar
- Domain delegation: only changes DNS servers, while the domain remains with the same registrar
