hese are two separate operations that are often confused. Knowing which one you need saves time and prevents accidental changes.
Comparison
| Domain transfer | Domain delegation | |
| What it changes | The registrar - the company where the domain is registered and renewed | The nameservers - which DNS servers the domain points to |
| Effect on hosting | Moves domain management to a new registrar | Points the domain to a specific hosting server |
| When to use | You want to manage and renew your domain through mybox | You want your domain to resolve to your mybox hosting, while keeping it registered elsewhere |
| Speed | May takes days - involves an authorisation code (authinfo) and registrar approval | Takes a few hours - DNS propagation |
Important note for .ro domains
For global domains (e.g. .com, .net, .eu), transferring to a new registrar automatically updates the nameservers to the new registrar’s defaults.
For .ro domains, this does not happen automatically. After completing a transfer, you need to manually change the delegation to mybox nameservers from the mybox panel:
ns1.mybox.com ns2.mybox.com DNS propagation
After changing delegation, the update propagates across DNS servers worldwide. This typically takes a few hours, though in some cases up to 24 hours. During propagation, your domain may resolve inconsistently depending on location. This is a standard DNS process and cannot be accelerated.
