A database is a set of data stored in a strictly defined way in structures corresponding to the assumed data model. In common terms, it includes data and a computer program specialized in collecting and processing this data. Such a program (often a set of programs) is called a “Database Management System” (DBMS). In strict nomenclature, a database is a set of data that is managed by a DBMS.

Database backups
In the new version of the mybox panel, you can restore the backup yourself. To do this, click on “Database” in the new the mybox panel and then on “Backups”. A menu will then expand that will allow us to download or restore a backup from a specific date.
NOTE: In order to restore backups older than 5 days, please contact the “Customer Service” via the Helpdesk 24h.
Database access parameters
- Host: information about the hostname can be found in the the mybox panel Beta, “Databases” tab, on the right, in the “Settings” box.
- Username: The username of your database
- Password: The password generated when the database user was created
- Database name: The name generated when the database was created
- Database Port: 3306
Database Management Systems
MySQL
“MySQL” is a multi-threaded and multi-user database management system (DBMS) developed by the Swedish company “MySQL AB”. “MySQL” includes great support for database replication (in master-slave> mode). It also has excellent multilingual support – each table and even each field can have its own character encoding setting. “MySQL” offers different types of tables, each type of which is designed for a different use. The most commonly used are:
- MyISAM – a fast, non-transactional type of tables. Only it allows full-text search.
- InnoDB – Slower than MyISAM, however, it compensates for supporting and logging transactions.
- MEMORY (up to version 4.1 – HEAP) – the fastest, as everything is stored exclusively in RAM. However, it has a few limitations, including not storing data when the “MySQL” server is turned off.
“MySQL” , on the other hand, enjoys the reputation of one of the fastest database servers, which makes it perfect as a server for frequently visited websites.
SQLite
“SQLite” – is a database management system and a C library implementing such a system, supporting the “SQL” ( Structured Query Language) language. It was created by Richard Hipp and is available under a public domain license. The project was launched in 2000. The library implements the “SQL” engine, giving you the ability to use the database without having to run a separate DBMS process. In many applications, and in particular in embedded systems, this solution is the most practical. The contents of the database are stored in one file (up to 2 TB). The “SQLite” database is maintained on disk using binary trees ( B-Tree). A separate tree is used for each of the tables and each of the indexes. Databases are saved as binary files. Their security is based on the security offered by the file system used. There is also a project that offers “SQLite” database encryption on an ongoing basis.
