Scaling in hosting means automatically adjusting server resources, CPU and RAM and Storage in response to your website’s changing needs. In mybox, this capability is available on Flex Box and Prime Box through a mechanism called Elastic Scaling.
Table of Contents
What is Elastic Scaling?
Elastic Scaling (ES) automatically increases available CPU, RAM and Storage when traffic exceeds the plan’s base parameters. Once the spike passes, resources return to their baseline values. No manual intervention is required.
| Plan | Base CPU / RAM/ Storage | Elastic Scaling ceiling |
| Flex Box | 6 GHz / 4 GB RAM/ 25 GB NVMe | Up to 12 GHz / 24 GB RAM / 200 GB NVMe |
| Prime Box | 9 GHz / 8 GB RAM/ 100 GB NVMe | Up to 24 GHz / 64 GB RAM / 1 TB NVMe |
Elastic Scaling is billed based on peak usage per minute - only the highest resource consumption recorded within each minute is counted. Spikes shorter than one second are not billed.
When Elastic Scaling makes a difference
Without scaling, a website that receives more traffic than its server can handle will slow down or become temporarily unavailable. Elastic Scaling ensures that short-term traffic increases - such as a promotional campaign, a product launch, or a seasonal spike - do not affect availability.
It is particularly relevant for:
- Online stores during sales periods or holiday traffic peaks
- Content websites after a post goes viral or gets picked up by a larger publication
- Service pages running time-limited campaigns with unpredictable reach
One Box and resource expansion
One Box does not include Elastic Scaling. Resources on the free plan can be expanded manually through add-ons - extra CPU, RAM, or storage purchased individually from the mybox Store. Add-ons increase the fixed base parameters but do not scale automatically.
When add-on limits are reached, upgrading to Flex Box provides both higher base parameters and automatic scaling.
