If you need to connect to your MySQL database from an external location, such as:
- A desktop application
- A CRM or ERP system
- A development environment
- An office network
- A local computer
you must first authorize the external IP address that will be connecting to the database.
For security reasons, database access is restricted by default and only approved IP addresses can establish remote connections.
Table of Contents
Step 1: Open the Databases Section
Log in to the mybox Panel and navigate to:
Databases → MySQL Remote Access
Step 2: Add a New IP Address
Click the:
+ Add button.
A form will appear allowing you to enter the details of the external connection.
Step 3: Enter the IP Address
In the IP Address field, enter the public IP address that should be allowed to connect to the database.
Example:
1.2.3.4 You can also add an optional description to help identify the purpose of the entry.
Examples:
Office
Home
Development PC
Accounting Software This can be useful when managing multiple authorized IP addresses.
Step 4: Save the Changes
After saving the new entry, the IP address will be added to the remote access whitelist.
The server configuration may take several minutes to update.
Connecting to the Database
Once the changes have been applied, you can connect to the database from the authorized location using your database credentials:
- Database host
- Database name
- Database username
- Database password
Example connection parameters:
Host: database-host.mysql.mybox.com
Database: my_database
Username: my_user
Password: ******** Finding Your Public IP Address
If you are unsure of your current public IP address, you can check it using an online service such as:
https://whatismyipaddress.com or
https://ifconfig.me Make sure you add the public IP address of the network that will be connecting to the database.
Important Notes
- Only authorized IP addresses can establish remote database connections.
- If your Internet provider changes your public IP address dynamically, you may need to update the whitelist periodically.
- Removing an IP address from the list immediately prevents future connections from that location.
- For security reasons, only add IP addresses that genuinely require access.
