Joomla modules allow you to add additional functionality and content blocks to your website, such as contact forms, menus, banners, login forms, and custom widgets.
Before installing a module, make sure it is compatible with your current Joomla version.

Download the module package
Download the module installation package from the developer’s website or the official Joomla Extensions Directory.
Most Joomla modules are distributed as compressed .zip files. Do not extract the archive before installation unless the developer’s documentation specifically instructs you to do so.
Log in to the Joomla administration panel
Open your Joomla administration panel by visiting:
https://yourdomain.com/administrator
Log in using your administrator account credentials.
Open the extension installer
From the top menu, navigate to:
System → Install → Extensions
Depending on your Joomla version, the menu layout may vary slightly.
Upload and install the module
In the installation screen, drag and drop the module archive into the upload area or click Browse for file and select the downloaded .zip file.
Joomla will automatically upload and install the extension.
Once the installation is complete, you should see a confirmation message.
Configure the module
After installation, go to:
Content → Site Modules
Locate the newly installed module in the list and click its name to open the settings page.
Depending on the module, you may be able to configure options such as:
- Display position
- Module title
- Access permissions
- Appearance settings
- Display conditions
Adjust the settings according to your requirements.
Assign a module position
For the module to appear on your website, you must assign it to a template position.
In the module settings, select the desired position from the Position field.
Available positions depend on the Joomla template currently used by your website.
If you’re unsure which positions are available, enable the template preview option or consult your template documentation.
Publish the module
Set the module status to Published.
You can also choose where the module should appear by selecting specific menu items or displaying it across the entire website.
Click Save & Close to apply your changes.
Verify the installation
Open your website in a new browser tab and confirm that the module is displayed correctly.
If the module does not appear:
- Verify that it is published
- Confirm that the correct position is selected
- Check menu assignment settings
- Clear the Joomla cache
- Ensure the module is compatible with your Joomla version
Keep your modules up to date
Regularly update installed modules to maintain security, compatibility, and performance.
Before installing updates or new extensions, create a backup of your website to ensure you can quickly restore it if necessary.
