If you add a new product to your PrestaShop store and it does not appear in search results, the search index may be outdated or incomplete.
PrestaShop’s built-in search engine does not search the entire product database directly. Instead, it searches a dedicated index that contains information about products available for search.
Normally, products are indexed automatically when they are created or updated. However, in some cases, a product may not be added to the index immediately or the indexing process may fail.

Why Products May Not Appear in Search Results
A product may not be searchable if:
- The search index is outdated.
- The product was not indexed correctly.
- Automatic indexing is disabled.
- The indexing process encountered an error.
In such cases, manually rebuilding the search index usually resolves the issue.
Accessing Search Settings
Step 1
Log in to your PrestaShop administration panel.
Step 2
Navigate to:
Configure → Shop Parameters → Search
The Search configuration page will open.
Manual Product Indexing
Within the Indexing section, you will find two available options.
Add Missing Products to the Index
This option scans your store and adds products that are not currently present in the search index.
Use this option when:
- Only a few products are missing from search results.
- You want a quick index update.
Rebuild the Entire Index
This option removes the existing index and creates a completely new one containing all products available in your store.
Use this option when:
- Many products are missing from search results.
- Search results appear incorrect.
- You suspect the search index is corrupted.
Depending on the size of your catalog, rebuilding the index may take some time.
Automatic Product Indexing
Below the manual indexing options, you will find the automatic indexing setting.
When enabled:
Yes
PrestaShop automatically updates the search index whenever products are added or modified.
When disabled:
No
Products must be indexed manually or through scheduled tasks.
For most stores, it is recommended to keep automatic indexing enabled.
Using a Cron Job for Search Index Updates
For larger stores or stores with frequent catalog updates, it is recommended to automate the indexing process.
PrestaShop provides a URL that can be executed through a cron job to refresh the search index automatically.
Recommended Configuration
Schedule the task to run:
Once every 24 hours
Preferably during periods of low activity, such as overnight.
Benefits include:
- Improved search consistency.
- Reduced risk of missing products.
- Automatic synchronization between the catalog and search index.
Troubleshooting Search Issues
If products still do not appear in search results after rebuilding the index:
- Verify that the product is enabled.
- Confirm that the product is assigned to at least one category.
- Check that automatic indexing is enabled.
- Rebuild the entire search index.
- Clear any cache used by your store.
