PrestaShop uses several caching mechanisms to improve store performance and reduce server load. Cached data allows pages to load faster by storing frequently used information instead of generating it from scratch every time a visitor accesses your store.
However, after making changes to your theme, modules, product data, or configuration, the cache may prevent those changes from appearing immediately. In these situations, clearing the cache is often the quickest solution.

Log in to the PrestaShop Administration Panel
Access your PrestaShop back office using your administrator credentials.
Navigate to the Performance Settings
The location of the cache management options may vary slightly depending on your PrestaShop version:
- PrestaShop 1.7 and newer: Go to Advanced Parameters → Performance
- Older versions: Go to Advanced → Performance
Clear the Cache
On the Performance page, locate the Clear Cache button, usually found in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Click the button and wait for the process to complete.
PrestaShop will remove cached files and rebuild them automatically as visitors browse your store.
Verify the Changes
After clearing the cache:
- Open your website in a new browser tab.
- Refresh the page using Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac) to force a full reload.
- Check whether your changes are now visible.
If Changes Still Don’t Appear
If clearing the PrestaShop cache does not solve the problem, additional caching layers may be involved:
- Browser cache
- Cloudflare cache
- Server-side cache
- CDN cache
- Cache generated by third-party modules
Try clearing these caches as well and then reload the page.
When Should You Clear the Cache?
Clearing the cache is recommended after:
- Updating your theme
- Installing or updating modules
- Modifying templates or CSS files
- Changing store settings
- Troubleshooting display issues
- Restoring a backup
While cache helps improve performance, clearing it periodically during development and maintenance ensures that the latest changes are displayed correctly.
Summary
PrestaShop’s cache system improves store performance, but it can sometimes prevent recent changes from appearing immediately. Clearing the cache from the Performance section of the administration panel is a quick and safe way to refresh cached data and resolve many common display and configuration issues.
