Joomla can send emails using your mybox mailbox through SMTP authentication. This ensures that messages generated by your website, such as contact form notifications, account confirmations, and password reset emails, are sent through an authorized email account.
Using SMTP improves email deliverability and helps recipient servers verify that messages originate from a trusted source.
Before you begin, make sure you have created the mailbox you want to use for sending messages and that you know its password.
If you have not created an email account yet, see the article “How to create an email account in mybox.”

Configure SMTP settings in Joomla
- Log in to the Joomla administration panel.
- In the left-hand menu, select System.
- Click Global Configuration.
- Open the Server tab.
- Scroll down to the Mail section.
- Configure the following settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Mailer | SMTP |
| SMTP Host | smtp.mybox.com |
| SMTP Port | 587 |
| SMTP Security | STARTTLS |
| SMTP Authentication | Yes |
- In the SMTP Username field, enter the full email address you want Joomla to use for sending messages.Example:
[email protected] - In the SMTP Password field, enter the password for the mailbox.
- Verify that the From Email field contains the same email address used for SMTP authentication.
- Click Save or Apply.
Send a test email
After saving the settings, return to the mail configuration section and click Send Test Email.
If the configuration is correct, Joomla will display a confirmation message and send a test email to the configured recipient address.
If you do not receive the message immediately, check your spam or junk folder.
Troubleshooting common issues
If the test message fails to send, verify the following:
- the mailbox exists and can log in successfully via
mail.mybox.com - the SMTP username is the full email address
- the mailbox password is correct
- the SMTP host is set to
smtp.mybox.com - the port is set to
587 - STARTTLS is selected as the encryption method
- SMTP authentication is enabled
Incorrect ports or encryption settings are the most common causes of SMTP connection errors.
If you recently changed your mailbox password, update the saved password in Joomla as well.
For additional guidance, see the article “How to configure an email client using IMAP and SMTP settings.”
If you experience delivery issues after the configuration is complete, the article “How to analyze email headers and identify suspicious messages” can help you troubleshoot email delivery problems.
Summary
Configuring Joomla to send messages through SMTP allows your website to authenticate outgoing emails using your mybox mailbox.
Using smtp.mybox.com with port 587 and STARTTLS improves message reliability and reduces the likelihood that emails will be rejected or marked as spam.
