Bitvise SSH Client is an application that allows you to connect securely to a server using SSH. In addition to terminal access, it also includes an SFTP client for transferring and managing files on the server.
This guide explains how to connect to your hosting account using Bitvise SSH Client.
Table of Contents
Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following information:
- SSH server address
- SSH username
- SSH password
- SSH access enabled on your hosting account
For mybox hosting accounts, SSH connection details are available in the mybox Panel.
Step 1: Install Bitvise SSH Client
Download and install Bitvise SSH Client from the official Bitvise website.
Once the installation is complete, launch the application.
Step 2: Enter the Connection Details
In the Login tab, enter your SSH account information:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Host | Your SSH server address |
| Username | Your SSH username |
| Initial Method | Password |
After entering the details, click Log in.
Step 3: Accept the Server Fingerprint
When connecting to the server for the first time, Bitvise will display information about the server’s SSH fingerprint.
Review the information and click:
Accept and Save
This stores the server fingerprint locally and helps verify the server during future connections.
Step 4: Enter Your Password
When prompted, enter your SSH password.
Click OK to continue.
If the login is successful, the main Bitvise window will remain open and additional connection options will become available.
Using the SFTP File Manager
Bitvise includes a built-in SFTP client that allows you to manage files on the server.
To open the file manager:
- Click New SFTP Window.
A new window will open displaying:
- Local files on your computer
- Files stored on the server
From here, you can:
- Upload files to the server
- Download files to your computer
- Create directories
- Rename files
- Delete files
Using the SSH Terminal
To open an SSH terminal session:
- Click New Terminal Console.
A terminal window will open, allowing you to execute commands directly on the server.
This can be used for tasks such as:
- Managing files
- Running scripts
- Checking logs
- Performing administrative actions
The available commands depend on your hosting environment and account permissions.
What to Expect
Once connected, Bitvise provides both file management and command-line access within the same application.
This allows you to transfer files and manage your hosting account without switching between multiple tools.
Summary
Bitvise SSH Client combines SSH terminal access and SFTP file management in a single application. After entering your SSH credentials and connecting to the server, you can use the built-in SFTP window to manage files or open a terminal console to execute commands directly on your hosting account.
