What is Redis and why use it in Magento?
Redis is an in-memory store that can be used as a fast and efficient caching system. Its advantages include fast access to data by storing it directly in RAM, which speeds up page loading and database queries.
Benefits of using Redis in Magento:
- Speed : Redis is a very fast system, which speeds up data access.
- Flexibility : With various data structures such as lists, hashes, and sets, Redis is flexible and adapts to different application needs.
- Cache Management : Effective cache management speeds up page loading and improves overall site performance.
Step 1: Install Redis on the server
Make sure Redis is installed on the server running your Magento site. You can do this using the package manager for your operating system.
Step 2: Check for Unix Socket Availability
Check if your Redis server supports Unix Socket connections. Unix Sockets are an alternative to TCP/IP connections and can improve security and performance.
Step 3: Configuring Redis in Magento
Go to your Magento admin panel and go to the tab System -> Configuration.
Select the tab Advanced -> Systemand locate the section Full Page Cache. Here you can configure Redis as your cache system.
Step 4: Configure Unix Socket
In the Redis Cache Backend section, configure the settings to use a Unix Socket instead of a TCP/IP connection. In the box Server, enter the path to the Unix Socket file, for example /home/mybox/LOGIN/.redis/redis.sock.
Step 5: Save changes and test the configuration
After making changes, save the configuration and test whether Magento is now using Redis instead of the default cache.
