the message.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recipient will receive your public key as an attachment and can import it into their email client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 of this message is only to distribute your public key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sending_an_Encrypted_Email\"><\/span>Sending an Encrypted Email<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once your recipient has imported your public key and you have imported theirs, you can begin exchanging encrypted messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To send an encrypted email:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a new message in Thunderbird.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Security\n<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thunderbird will automatically detect that encryption is available for the recipient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compose and send your message.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When encryption is active, Thunderbird displays a confirmation indicator showing that the message will be encrypted before transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only recipients with the corresponding private key will be able to read the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Importing_a_PGP_Key\"><\/span>Importing a PGP Key<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When someone sends you their public key, it typically arrives as an email attachment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To import the key:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the email containing the public key attachment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the attached key file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Import OpenPGP Key\n<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thunderbird will analyze the file and display information about the key.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review the details if desired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Import\n<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">to add the key to your keyring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once imported successfully, Thunderbird can use the key to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encrypt messages sent to that recipient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verify digital signatures created by that class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenPGP uses two keys:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Public_Key\"><\/span>Public Key<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The public key is shared with other people and allows them to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encrypt messages sent to you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verify your digital signatures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Private_Key\"><\/span>Private Key<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The private key remains on your device and should never be shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is used to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Decrypt messages sent to you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create digital signatures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone who obtains your private key may be able to read your encrypted messages and impersonate you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Best_Practices\"><\/span>Best Practices<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always protect your private key with a strong password.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never send your private key to anyone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verify key fingerprints before exchanging sensitive
