by creating a DNS record that points to the destination server&#8217;s IP address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is commonly used when a specific service, application, or website class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exact configuration may depend on how the destination server is configured to handle hostnames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_normal_behavior\"><\/span>What is normal behavior?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After saving the DNS record:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the change may not be visible immediately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DNS propagation can take several minutes to several hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>some networks may continue using cached DNS information temporarily<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This behavior is expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Practical_implications\"><\/span>Practical implications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creating an A record only directs traffic to the destination server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The destination server must also be configured to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>accept requests for the subdomain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>serve the correct website or application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>provide an SSL certificate if HTTPS is required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without server-side configuration, visitors may still see errors even if the DNS record is correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summary\"><\/span>Summary<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To point a subdomain to another server, create an A record in the DNS zone that contains the destination server&#8217;s IP address.
